ACCIDENTAL VICTIM: Dana Perino. pic/ap | The shoes thrown by Muntazer al-Zaidi on Sunday missed the target and US President George Bush emerged without a single bruise. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, however, was not so lucky.
Perino was struck by a microphone on a boom stand that was sent swivelling into her face by a Secret Service agent as he rushed towards the president when the Iraqi journalist hurled his shoe at Bush.
Perino revealed her minor wound at a press conference on Thursday, where she said it was up to Iraqis to decide whether or not punishment was appropriate for al-Zaidi
"The president believes that Iraq is a sovereign country, a democratic country, and they will have a process that they follow on this," she said. "The president harbours no hard feelings about the incident."
Al-Zaidi has been handed over to the Iraqi judiciary, an Iraqi official said yesterday, a move that ordinarily signals the start of criminal proceedings. |
