With an eye on improving patrolling and surveillance in coastal area, the Mumbai police have asked the government to equip the dock police with sophisticated equipment.
The police have asked for 12 speed boats with life-saving jackets, bullet-proof jackets, VHF and GPS systems, night vision binoculars, digital cameras, and a weapon mounting stand on each boat.
When asked about the demands Madhukar Kohe, DCP (Port zone), said, "We face a lot of problems while patrolling the sea during night. It may not be possible to buy this equipment as it involves a lengthy procedure. But the government is planning to take these boats on hire till the demands are sanctioned."
Meanwhile, security at the docks has been beefed up, and the cops are currently patrolling 10 nautical miles into the sea. |
