So it seems from the comedy of errors that rolled out on runway
AREY tyre gir gaya, wapas ao! And the plane comes back.
A chapter straight out of a Santa-Banta joke book. Only this happened at the Delhi airport on Thursday morning. A SpiceJet plane (SG-851), which happily had taken off with 157 people at 9.39 am for Jammu, was called back in panic after the pilot of the next aircraft in queue for a take-off saw an object on the runway. He thought the earlier plane had taken off leaving the tyres behind and informed the Air Traffic Control room guys.
They promptly asked the SpiceJet captain to head back. Now!
The dazed and confused SpiceJet pilot, crew and passengers landed in alarm, wasting much time and fuel. Only to realise it was a false alarm. The tyres were all there. Some bearings were obviously missing.
The flight took off again after a two-hour delay and refueling. A Spicejet spokesperson, managing to speak deadpan, said: "All the passengers are safe. It was a procedural requirement to fly back the aircraft. The debri belonged to some other plane."
