illustration/sameer pawar | Crime Branch officials were in for a shock when arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba member Sabahuddin Ahmed revealed how the Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) operatives taught them secret codes to plot attacks in India without getting caught by Indian security agencies.
According to police sources, alphabetical and numerical codes were taught to terrorists. However, their secret code has been deciphered after the recent arrests of a few LeT members. Ahmed, along with Fahim Ansari, is indirectly linked to the 26/11 attacks. Both are in custody of Mumbai's Crime Branch.
Investigations have also revealed that the common link between them and terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Qasab is one Abu Hamza.

Investigations have found that Pakistani Colonel Kyani, who was on deputation to ISI, trained Ahmed. Major Dogar, Captain Maullik Zaffar and an unidentified brigadier had trained the other LeT terrorists on using the code. Documents available with MiD DAY indicate that LeT chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Laqvi had instructed Ahmed on the same.
Ahmed told the police that he was sent from Lahore to Islamabad where he met Muzzamil alias Yusuf and Abdul Azeez, who gave him the alphabetical coding system to be used in India. Azeez and Muzzamil had instructed Qasab that they were working for the ISI and that the LeT was a part of it.
All the 10 terrorists were given new e-mail IDs to communicate among themselves. Zaffar also created another set of e-mail IDs to communicate with them. |
