One thing good has come out of the terror attacks. The Mumbai Police has decided to install CCTV cameras at public places all over the city, including roads, bus stops, signals and other important spots, to keep a watch on suspicious activities.

The railways and the traffic departments have already installed the cameras at stations, at signals and check points. But now, the Mumbai Police will install cameras that will help keep a watch in areas under their surveillance.

The Mumbai Police has sent letters to all police stations instructing them to recognise important spots. Most have already identified spots and replied to their zonal deputy commissioners of police, who have forwarded the information to the Mumbai police headquarters.

A senior officer said, "We plan to install CCTV cameras all over Mumbai. We have also sent letters to malls, multiplexes, corporate houses, and even temples directing them to install their own CCTV cameras inside."

Senior Police Inspector

P Suryavanshi from Andheri police station said, "We have already identified several spots and have sent it to the headquarters. We have also cautioned malls, hotels and corporate houses to beef up their security inside the premises." Another senior police officer added, "We are not sure when the police will provide the cameras. This should help us monitor suspicious movements."
