Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman, the only surviving terrorist who was shifted to Arthur Road Jail for an identification parade, was brought back to Crime Branch lock-up on Monday, police sources said here.
"About 20 witnesses, who participated in the identification parade, have identified Ajmal. He was brought back to Crime Branch in the wee hours on Monday," they said.
Ajmal had been taken to the Arthur Road Jail in central Mumbai on Saturday. Nine other terrorists were killed by security forces during the 59-hour long terror attacks which began on November 26 and claimed over 170 lives.
On Wednesday, Ajmal was remanded to police custody till January 6 by the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in a case related to forcible possession of a Skoda car near Mantralaya (state secretariat) on November 26 night.
Owing to security concerns, the Magistrate and Public Prosecutor had come to Mumbai police headquarters to extend his police custody.
Ajmal and his accomplice Ismail Khan had gunned down three top police officials at Cama Hospital in south Mumbai before hijacking the Skoda car. The car was stopped by policemen at Girgaun Chowpatty. While Khan was shot dead by the police, Ajmal was caught alive.
