Liverpool: Rare pictures of the Beatles in Rishikesh shot by a Canadian photographer greet passengers at the John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, from where the iconic group travelled in 1968 to the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who died earlier this month.

The Beatles had a close interaction with the guru, who not only taught them meditation and spiritualism, but also invited them to spend time in his ashram in Rishikesh in 1968.

During their eight-week-long stay in the ashram, the band was said to have been very relaxed and at its  most creative and wrote 48 songs there. Canadian photographer Paul Saltzman who was at the ashram to learn meditation from the yogi, stumbled upon the band by accident and it was then that Saltzman clicked the rare pictures, only to forget about them in a box for 33 years.
