HOMES LOST: Over 200 hutments were gutted in the fire. PIC/Sameer Markande
A massive fire engulfed hutments near Mahim Causeway late last night following a gas cylinder explosion.

Over 200 hutments behind the LS Raheja Hospital were reportedly gutted in the fire that threatened to spread further even as 12 fire engines battled to control it over three hours.

No casualties were reported as the fire brigade personnel and the police carried out evacuation immediately after fire reports.

Rail and road traffic towards western suburbs moved slowly for over an hour and office-goers were left stranded even as the fire tenders fought to control the blaze. As many as eight tankers and three ambulances were rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, three tankers carrying Liquefied Petroelum Gas owned by the Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited also caught fire near Ashish theatre in Chembur.

No casualties were reported in this fire either.
