Police responded to a call at the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) office in the state of Johor and found S Krishnasamy (61) slumped dead, said Mohamad Mokhtar Mohamad Shariff, Johor’s deputy police chief.
Krishnasamy was an MIC leader and a lawmaker in the Johor state assembly, Mohamad Mokhtar said he did not know what the motive was in Krishnasamy’s death, but police were investigating it as a murder.
Krishnasamy was the second MIC politician shot dead since 2000.
Krishnasamy’s death comes amid increased tension in Malaysia’s minority Indian community. Many ethnic Indians have complained that the MIC has not done enough to protect their interests. |
