Two unidentified men looted an HDFC ATM near Vishal Hall, Andheri (E) at 1 am last night. The duo posed as customers. “While one pretended to be filling a slip, the other at the ATM pretended like he was withdrawing cash,” said Niraj Kishore Singh, the on duty security guard.
Singh said he did not suspect that “the decent-looking” boys could have come to the ATM with the motive of robbing it.
“But when they refused to let a third customer, deposit a cheque in the drop box on the side, I got a little suspicious of them. I entered the ATM and saw one of them sitting behind the ATM machine collecting the cash in a bag,” said Singh.
The duo then pushed Singh and rushed out of the ATM. Other security guards also tried to help nab them, but the two managed to escape.
An Andheri police official said, “The duo was aware of the ATM’s code number as they did not break into the security door. They were experts and did the robbery systematically. We have registered the guard’s statement. Investigation into he matter is on.”
HDFC is yet to account how much has been stolen. |
