Mumbai:

A thirteen-year-old boy drowned in Mithi river in a north-east suburb after he went swimming in it, police said today.

Avinash Pawar (13) had gone swimming in the river at Dharavi along with his friends Ajinkya Ingle (16) and Suraj Pol (13).

He drowned due to the strong current following yesterday's downpour, the police said.

The trio had gone swimming in the river after attending tuition classes, they said.

While swimming, Pawar and Pol started struggling for breath and sought help from their friend who was on the bank.

Ingle managed to save one of his friends using a thermocoal slab however he was unable to rescue Pawar, police said, adding that further investigations were on.
