London:

Inderjit Seehra, a Jamshedpur-born British civil servant, has been appointed to the key position of director of Human Resources at the University of Cambridge.

Seehra, who currently works at the Home Office, will take up the post in September 2008.

As the HR director, Seehra will support the management of nearly 8,000 staffers across the university, including experts in various disciplines in various faculties and departments.

Born in Jamshedpur, he studied at the Loyola School before moving to England and completing his secondary education at The Heathland School in West London.

He studied at Portsmouth University and Sheffield Business School before graduating with a Masters in Organisational Development.

In 1999, Seehra joined the Civil Service as HR Director for the Crown Prosecution Service.

Seehra is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a regular speaker at leadership conferences.

A university release said Seehra has an active interest in the ongoing development of Sikhism in England.

He is a participant in events held by the British Sikh Society.

Jonathan Nicholls, the University Registrary, said, "Human Resources is an integral part of the overall good management and best practice of the University.

"We look forward to see Seehra further develop this important function and continue to foster strong and positive working relationships."
