Third time unlucky?

Mumbai:

After an acquittal in two murder cases, Ravi-ndra Kantrolu, alleged Beer Man serial killer, is set to face judgment in the toughest case against him so far. That's because the prosecution has managed to produce independent witnesses, unlike in the first two murder cases.

Kantrolu is accused of stabbing a man to death on the Marine Drive foot over bridge on January 11, 2006.

The two eyewitnesses claim to have seen him with the victim at the murder spot, while they were out for a morning walk. The scientific and circumstantial evidence also supports the prosecution.

According to the statement of witness Natha Hari Dongre, while he was out on his walk at 5.15 am, he saw two people sleeping on the foot over bridge. Dongre claims that one of them was wearing green clothes and had a beard and long hair. He saw blood on palms of the other person and ran away.

An investigating officer said, "It is the only case where the witnesses had seen the accused and the victim at the crime spot." But defence lawyer Sushan Kunjurman said, "None of the eyewitnesses have seen the accused commit the crime. And the scientific evidence is not admissible in the court."
