I don't need to prove myself by number of songs: Shaan
By: Navdeep Kaur Marwah

New Delhi:

The ever charming and talented singer Shaan is one man who needs no introductions. The melodious singer is back as the host of second season of the popular 'Voice of India'.

In an exclusive interview with MiD Day Shaan gets candid and talks about his association with the show, his future projects and much more.

How excited are you regarding the new season

Keeping in mind that the first season got such popularity, the enthusiasm is much more this time. Even the format has undergone some changes. This season unlike the previous season, we have 22 participants who will be representing 22 states of the country. So in a way, each of these participants is already a winner in his/her own way. So it is much better and stronger as a format.

Even the judges are different from the previous season

Yes, this time we have singer Sukhwinder Singh, Music Director Monty Sharma and music composer Ismail Darbar as our judges. All three of them are musical geniuses who are really passionate about music. Also they have done their best to preserve the sanctity of music.

Where do you think will VOI score over its competitors?

Being a musical reality show, our whole effort is to encourage good music rather them getting sensational with judges squabble or participants walking off, you know what I mean. The effort is more towards music than the 'reality element', because that is what differentiates it from a typical reality show like Big Boss. We want this show to be free from unnecessary controversies and be very strong musically.

As the host of the show, what kind of rapport do you share with the participants?

They treat me like a big brother and a senior in the industry and at my level I try to guide them and make them comfortable as much as I can.

The recent case of Shinjini Sengupta has raised questions about the judge's comments on any reality show. What's your take on the same?

The judges need to cautious while they make a comment. Also the comments should only be directed towards the performance of the contestant and not on his/her personal front.

Tell us something about your forthcoming singing projects

The movies for which I have sung recently include Kismet Connection and Ek Vivaah among many others. To be honest, at this stage of my career I don't think I need to prove myself by the number of songs that I am recording.
