There is ambiguity in the youth and youth leaders in the capital over the Indo-US nuclear deal, its content and its implications on the country.

Though the nuclear deal has become a major political issue in the country, youth wing leaders of the prominent political parties are not aware about the deal.

Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar said, "Everything in the deal is positive. There is nothing, which can be termed as negative in the deal.

The biggest benefit out of the deal for the youth would be the employment generation that the agreement would cause in the country." Tanwar did not get into the specifics of the deal.

Delhi University Student's Union president Amrita Bahari, of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) had high hopes from the deal. She said, "Once the deal comes through, this would mean that industries from India would be able to do nuclear agreement with industries from other countries."

She added, "The government would go to the 'National Supplier's Group' (NSG) to get the deal cleared and then it will help India in the field of civilian power generation." Tanwar and Bahari said they would vote for the government.

Former university leader, BJP affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Vikas Dahiya said, "Though the deal would be beneficial for the generation of power for the civilian use but this would curtail our ability to carry out nuclear tests for military use like the Pokharan tests in future."

Dahiya's comment on the benefits of the deal in field were in contrast with the views of leader of the Opposition and BJP leader L K Advani's statement in the Parliament where he said that the deal would not be of much help in meeting the civilian requirements also as it would be able to meet only six percent of the energy needs of the country.

Dahiya toed his party line while commenting upon the fate of the government tomorrow and said, "The government is going to fall and we will see the BJP coming to power in the future." Dahiya said he vote the government out.

Roshan, President of the Jawahar lal Nehru University and a leader of the CPI (M) affiliated Students Federation Of India (SFI) said, "We are against the deal and we are exposing the weak points of the deal through various programmes run by our student outfit across the country and are sure that we would be able to expose the deal amongst the people."
