CBI waits UP guv nod to prosecute Mayawati
The case would be coming up for hearing before the court on July 28. Once the agency gets a go ahead from the court, it will go the governor.
"We are expecting to get a go-ahead in the case as we have ample proof against her in the case," said a highly placed source in the agency.
Governor's consent
Once the CBI files the chargesheet, the agency will have to get the consent from the UP Governor as to start an inquiry against the CM, the permission has to come from the Governor of that state.
"With Mayawati's sworn rivals the Samajwadi Party also joining hands with the Congress in the Centre, the consent from the Governor is a almost a surety," said a source in the CBI.
Meanwhile, the sources said that though the Dalit icon was now complaining against the CBI, she has earlier used her 'good relations' with the UPA government around the Presidential elections in June 2007 to get respite in the Taj Corridor case.
Chargesheet filed
The agency had filed a chargesheet against her and sought permission from T V Rajeshwar, but was denied.
In the Taj Corridor case, which was registered against her during the NDA regime, Mayawati was given a clean chit by the CBI telling the SC that no case could be made out against her in the issue.
The disproportionate assets case was offshoot of the Taj case as investigations in it were initiated after the SC, while hearing the hearing the Taj case, asked the CBI to investigate the assets of people associated with the project, including Mayawati.
