Delhi: A 21-year-old student of St. Stephens college committed suicide over the depression of failing in her final year examination.
Hanged herself
Upasana Sahoo, a final year student of Economics (Honours) killed herself by hanging from the ceiling fan at her residence in Taj Apartments, Ghazipur road, near Kalyanpuri.
Sahoo was found hanging by her mother when she returned from her work. Her father Span Kumar, told the police, "My child was fine and showed no signs of depression over her examination result. When my wife returned from office she found that the entrance door was locked."
Sahoo was rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
A police official, said, "They recovered a suicide note from her room, where she had mentioned that she was solely responsible for her death.
The family of the deceased has has confirmed that the handwriting on the note matches their daughter's writing.
"We have recorded statements of the family members and are probing all angles. The post mortem of the victim will be conducted on Friday," said a senior police official.
Sapan Kumar works for a law firm while her mother is a teacher at a private school in Vinod Nagar.
Another incident
Meanwhile in another incident, a 18-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself at her residence in Mandawali area of East Delhi.
Priyanka Singh, daughter of an assistant engineer with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, was found hanging at around 10:30 p.m.
The police said that the victim had been suffering from mental illness for the past several years.
The deceased was under medication for prolonged mental illness.
