According to director general of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), this would make the industries in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad poorer by Rs 500 crore every week. Thus every month industries in Pune will incur losses to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore.
"Power situation in Pune district is pretty grim because there is a wide gap between demand and supply. If the situation continues, then we will have to impose load-shedding of 40 hours for the industries in Pune district," said chief engineer of urban circle R Gautam.
"This is going to badly hit the industries in Pune, particularly the manufacturing sector whose total industrial production is around Rs 50,000 crore annually," MCCIA additional director General Anant Sardeshmukh said.
Warning
The MSEDCL has asked all high-tension consumers, including malls, multiplexes and hospitals, to reduce power consumption by 20 per cent failing which the MSEDCL will cut off their power supply.
