Jammed: Vehilces moved at a snail's pace as roads were closed

Panic gripped the city as news of the blasts spread. Schools and business establishments shut down. Mobile networks were jammed with heavy call traffic. Malls and shopping areas wore a deserted look.

Companies suspended cab services for some time fearing danger. "As soon as the news of the blasts spread, our company suspended cab services. Only after 5.30 pm, when they got the clearance from the police, they resumed cab services," said Nimmi G, employee of an MNC.

"They didn't let us go out after 2.30 pm just to be on the safer side. Those who were supposed to come for the afternoon shift too were asked to stay home," said Asha Nair, employee of another MNC.

HR Executives too were busy finding maps to avoid the areas where the blasts took place. "We had to forward the maps to our employees," she said.

The schools closed down at 2.30 pm instead of the regular 3.30 pm.
