Controversial: Asaram Bapu has been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently

Faith can do wonders. In the case of the Yadavs, it means allowing their kids to continue studying in a place, where their youngest child died under mysterious circumstances.

Mohanlal Yadav's four-year-old son Ramkrishna died after being found unconscious in the toilet of religious guru Asaram Bapu's ashram in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday evening. However, in spite of the tragedy, Mohanlal wants his two other kids to continue studying there. "We have faith in Bapu and want our son and daughter to continue studying in the same ashram. The death of my son was an accident and I am sure that the people of the ashram will take care of my other children," said Mohanlal, a resident of Wadala.

Vinod Shrivastav, police inspector from Madhya Pradesh, said, "On Tuesday evening, when all the students from the hostel gathered for the Sandhyawas (evening prayer), Ramkrishna got up in between and went to the toilet, but didn't return." A little later, two students, Akash Gupta from Allahabad and Lalit Kumar from Andhra Pradesh, found Ramkrishna lying on the floor in an unconscious state.

Manohar Jaiswal, ashram warden, immediately took him to Lokesh Sharma, the in-house doctor. Sharma asked Jaiswal to rush Ramkrishna to a nearby clinic. Unfortunately, he died after they reached Dr Nahar's dispensary, which is situated a kilometre way from the ashram. "According to the warden and doctor from the hostel, Ramkrishna was alive till he was taken to the dispensary. No external injuries were seen on his body. A case of suspicious death has been registered and investigations are on. The reason for the death would be clear only after the post-mortem report," said Shrivastav. Police say they will interrogate Ramkrishna's siblings to find out if anyone troubled him in the hostel.

Not again

Earlier this month, two cousins, aged 10 and 11, studying in a school run by Asaram Bapu Ashram in Ahmedabad were found dead in mysterious circumstances, sparking protests by locals. The protesters had clashed with Asaram's followers, who had attacked journalists.
