Our photographer Rane Ashish spotted this Maruti car MH02-LA-9551 get a helping tow from a traffic police towing van yesterday. What caught his eye was that there were two girls sitting at the back even as it was being towed. His curiosity got the better of him and he decided to probe further. It emerged that the car had stalled outside Mithibai College, as it ran out of petrol. The occupants (four ladies) and the driver sat in the car not quite knowing what to do.An irate traffic cop saw the stalled car and asked why it was not moving. When he was informed that it was out of fuel, the traffic cop then turned self-styled saviour. He told the occupants he would get them to the petrol pump by towing the car for a fee of Rs 400. The two girls sat at the back while their mother, another girl and the driver went to the Andheri S V Road petrol pump to wait for the car. What should have been a few minutes wait turned into one hour as the cop was busy collecting two-wheelers to tow away with the car hitched on at the back.
They finally reached S V Road, where the car was unhitched and guzzled the fuel thirstily. The tired occupants got out after 60 minutes of unwanted Mumbai darshan, hitched on to a towing truck, while the 'good Samaritan' cop left with his money and all those mobikes of course. A little bit of wheelin'-dealin' Mumbai ishtyle.
