Newly appointed top cop Hasan Gafoor has a lot planned for Mumbai. “But the topmost thing on my agenda is to curb terrorism and I have certain plans for it,” Gafoor said. Backed by his experiences, Gafoor also has plans on intelligence gathering from various agencies.

As the new commissioner, Gafoor also aims to give special emphasis to communal harmony and curbing street-level crime.

Rooting out corruption

Gafoor added, “The profile of crime has changed with time and I want to implement a new approach to deal with organised crime and mafia, since Mumbai is the commercial capital of the country.”  He also plans to focus on crime against senior citizens, which has been on the rise recently. Gafoor added, “Rooting out corruption will be a big part of my job.”

An engineering graduate from Mumbai University, Gafoor believes his experience and connections in several international agencies will be helpful during his tenure as the commissioner.

Profile

In his 30 years of years of service in the police department, Gafoor has served as the DCP of Zone 1, 3 and 6. He was the additional commissioner of the crime branch, heading traffic and administration.
He had a long stint as director security, Air India, and also underwent extensive training with the FBI and at various international police colleges.
