SCENE OF CRIME: The fake admission form racket at Sion Hospital was being run by registration and admission department employees

An FIR filed by the deputy dean of Sion Hospital, Sunil Pai, on Tuesday has blown the lid over a huge racket run by the hospital staff. It has emerged that registration and admission department employees had been selling duplicate admission forms, worth Rs 10 each, from 2001 to 2005. As the hospital sells at least a 1,000 forms a day, the accused could have made around Rs 30 to 40 lakh in that span.

The racket first came to light in 2005 after a patient complained that he was denied admission, as his form was a duplicate. The health department initiated an enquiry and their report, which arrived last week, corroborated the complaint.

The hospital then filed a case of cheating and forgery against Sayeeda Shaikh, Sameer Shaikh, Sunil Ghadi, Paresh Kerkar, Prashant Roy and Swapnil Parab, all em-ployees of the registration and admission department. No arrests have been made yet. Said a cop from Sion police, “We are initially investigating the sale of duplicate forms between November 21, 2005, to December 21, 2005, as we have got some of the forms sold that month. We will also look into what transpired between 2001 to 2005. The accused made at least Rs 40,000-50,000 per month.”

Pai refused to comment on the issue.
