MiD DAY lensman Anil Naik visits Ved Bhawan to seize moments of how students become Vedacharyas

Lata to recite Shlokas by Shankaracharya

ON the 62nd anniversary of the Vedbhavan, singer Lata Mangeshkar has agreed to recite 54 shlokas written by Shankarcharya after a special request was made by Vedacharya Ghaisas Gururji, the chief trustee of Vedbhavan.

"Like Subba Laxmi, whose recital on Vishnu Sahastranaam (the sholoka on thousand names of Lord Vishnu), Lataji's voice will also get an appreciation from devotees," he told MiD DAY.

According to Guruji, it was during a function where former chief minister and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi requested her to recite richa (Shloka) from the ancient Vedas.

Located in Bawdhan on Paud Road, Vedbhavan was established in 1945 by Vinayak Bhatt Ghaisas, father of Ghaisas Guruji.

A huge building was constructed 19 years ago. The Bhavan was engaged in week-long celebrations which concludes today.

Vedbhawan guides 20 young students in learning Vedas with its rituals. The 12-year course begins at the age of nine year. The course is becoming popular with many students coming from outside Maharashtra.
