Can't keep a good team down

Mumbai:

And Bombay Scottish learnt it the hard way as Don Bosco edged past despite stiff resistance

BOMBAY Scottish (Powai) did everything right against title favourites Don Bosco High School (Matunga) but they just couldn't manage to hold them.

Bosco proved their championship worth by scoring in the dying minutes and winning what looked like a goalless draw.

Vineet Norohna's well-placed header left the Scottish goalkeeper stunned and gave Don Bosco a 1-0 win in the Nike MSSA boys' U-14 div IA match at Azad Maidan yesterday.

But Bosco were made to work hard despite a team full of young stars.

Captain Girik Khosla plays for the I-League club Mumbai FC's U-14 team. And many of the players have represented Maharashtra at the under-14 level.

Scottish's coach Ranjit Bhan was disappointed but lauded his team for their fight. "The best part about our team is they have the desire to win, which clearly showed in their game," he said.

"These boys are so passionate that they also skip lunch and have practice games during meal breaks. It was just not our day. We failed to convert on few occasions, but I am content with the performance," he added.

Bosco coach Mohan Pillay said, "I have an excellent team. All my players are extremely good. We should have defeated them with a greater margin, but they played well to hold us till the end."
