Delhi: Delhi has had a woman chief minister for the past 10 years. But it seems women in the chief minister's New Delhi constituency are not impressed. This time, nine candidates from the fairer sex are contesting against Sheila Dikshit.
None of them seem to stand a chance of winning against the Congress mascot, but they want to take this election as an opportunity to express their "displeasure" against Dikshit's policies on development and women.
The women aspirants allege that the chief minister has failed to address the issues of women and are particularly angry at her "adventerous" comment regarding the murder of Soumya Viswanathan, a news producer of a TV channel.
"It is not about winning. I am contesting because I want to highlight our troubles," said Nimmi Sayed, a candidate of National Jankranti Dal from the constituency.
New Delhi constituency has the highest number of women candidates in the poll fray. But overall, this year there are fewer women contestants only 60 which is 18 less than the 2003 polls.
Five of the nine women opposing Dikshit have backing from political parties while four are Independents.
