A 28-year-old autorikshaw driver, who was recently released on bail, was chased and hacked to death by a group of 10 armed people in broad daylight within Gnanabharati police station limits on Tuesday.
Police said gang rivalry was the motive behind the murder. The deceased, Mahesh, was standing with his autorickshaw at Janata Colony autorickshaw stand, when 10 armed people on motorcycles surrounded him.
Mahesh tried to escape, but the gang chased him in full public view flashing lethal weapons like choppers, swords and iron rods. The attackers chased Mahesh for 10 minutes before hacking him to death on 5th Cross, Janata Colony. Passers-by remained mute spectators. The gang sped away leaving Mahesh in a pool of blood.
According to police, Mahesh and his brother Vinay were arrested by Girinagar police for the murder of Kumar, 10 months back. While Vinay is still in jail, Mahesh was out on bail recently.
Mahesh and his family were living in Avalahalli in Srinagar and he shifted his family to Janata colony after he was out on bail.
However, to avenge Kumar's death, the gang caught up with him. Jnanabharati police who have taken up a case of murder have got vital clues about the assailants and are tracking them.
