The high court will hear petitions filed by A N Roy and the state government, challenging Central Administrative Tribunal's (CAT) order with regards to A N Roy's appointment as the state director general of police (DGP). After rescheduling the hearing over the past two weeks, a final verdict is expected today.

CAT, in its order of October 8, had set aside A N Roy's appointment and asked the government to complete the formalities of selecting a new DGP within four weeks. The order came in response to a petition filed by Suprakash Chakravorti, DG (anti-corruption).

Chakravorti had contended that A N Roy was not eligible to be considered for the highest post, as the Supreme Court has laid down norms for selection of DGP, according to which, only three senior-most IPS officers from a state can be considered for the post.
