They tested positive for drugs after being caught at a Juhu rave party on October 5; police will issue summons and arrest them shortly
The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) is giving a group of 231 youths caught during a rave party on October 5, a serious reason to worry for their careers. One hundred and nineteen members of the group, which includes singers, fashion designers, airhostesses, bankers, architects, media executives and college students, will shortly be summoned and arrested.
What adds to their worry is that none of the 231 youngsters, who were caught at the pub Bombay 72° East, in Juhu know if their name features on the list. The summoned youths are to be arrested under section 27 of NDPS Act for consuming banned drugs, and will be later produced in the Esplanade court.
Of the 231 who were detained and tested for doping, 87 are college students, and 80 are working professionals. The others do not work, but are from affluent families.
Guilty called
Armed with test reports of 109 of the 119 who were declared positive by the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Kalina, on Tuesday, the ANC will, in the summons, ask the youths to be present at their office at Azad Maidan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre Patil has asked his officers to check if there are other habitual offenders among those who have tested positive. Anuradha Sanyal, who was arrested for peddling drugs at the pub and later granted bail, is the daughter of a very senior Army officer.
Dr Yusuf Merchant, head of Drug Abuse Information Rehabilitation and Research Centre says, "Young professionals and college students are taking up the habit with disturbing zeal to project an air of modernity."

How to keep your child from drugs: >>Find out the cause for his abuse >>Praise and encourage your child on every possible occasion. Sometimes low self-esteem can drive a child to drugs. >>Love your child unconditionally. Cuddle or hug him. >>Convince him to see a professional >>Spend quality time together >>React to his drug use as a disease and not as a crime. >>Give your child responsibility. It will make him feel valued and useful. >>Make them aware of the consequences of drug abuse >>Use terms that a child would understand like 'Drugs can make you dizzy' or 'Drugs will make you sick' and drugs can make you look unattractive
