The Pittsburgh Pirates have become the first Major League Baseball team to sign players from India after inking 20-year-old right-hander Dinesh Patel and 19-year-old left-hander Rinku Singh as non-drafted free agents yesterday.

According to a report on mlb.com, the Indian pair will participate in minor league spring training next year.

"The Pirates are committed to creatively adding talent to our organisation," said general manager Neal Huntington in a statement.

By adding these two young men, we are pleased to not only add two prospects to our system but also hope to open a pathway to an untapped market."

The two were discovered while participating in India's Million Dollar Arm challenge, a competition designed to find the strongest and most accurate arm in the country.
