I saw dead bodies all over: Milind Deora

By: As told to Upala KBR

"There's a deep sense of shock and anger as we walk through from the old Oberoi to the new one. I had gone with our Home Minister RR Patil. Going through the Oberoi is a horrific and surreal experience! There is smoke, dead bodies and pools of thick, congealing blood all over," says Milind Deora Congress MP.

As we retrace our steps from the old to the new Oberoi it's a scary experience. The whole lobby of the old Oberoi is destroyed. Apparently 2 terrorists walked into the Oberoi and started firing. They then up went to the Kandahar restaurant, holed up there and started hurling grenades at everyone so people couldn't enter the lobby.

From Kandahar they went on to the Tiffin (downstairs) restaurant where people were having dinner and started firing at them. There were so many dead bodies at Tiffin, including bodies of foreigners.

I am shaken by what I see. Apparently two commandoes died during the attack while some were injured. There's a deep sense of anger in me about those who did this. My eyes are red, I can't control my anger. Today if the perpetrators of this horrific tragedy were in front of me I can't doubt that I would have shot at them taking a gun from someone. I am so carried away by the havoc and destruction that I see around me and yet so proud of our men in the armed forces - the commandoes, some injured and covered in dust.

My heart goes out to the 2 commandoes who died there, the police and all the men in uniform, the NSG, Navy, all the commandoes and the firemen who don't get credit. Now the Oberoi is totally clear. The commandoes are cleaning up the place and looking for booby traps. As I walk out I feel a sense of extreme pride and humility at how much we take for granted and what the commandoes have accomplished today. Their sense of duty is amazing!"
