The youth should take part in polls to elect a party that can fight terrorism, says Arun Jaitley
BJP's national general secretary Arun Jaitley is ready to dethrone chief minister Sheila Dikshit in Delhi. He is optimistic of his party's win in tomorrow's polls. Excerpts from an interview:
The model code of conduct for elections has come into force, but due to the attack on Mumbai your campaign still seems to be going on by default.
We do not want to politicise such a gross national tragedy. Today, the country has to spell out its resolve to fight terror in terms of intelligence, security and political will. If the government does that I will be happy standing with it.
If you come to power, will the situation be different?
It will be. We will not link the fight against terror with vote bank considerations. We will link it purely with security. The country needs a huge intelligence network expansion. We need to infiltrate terrorists' modules, make more intercepts, and have strong laws and political resolve.
But even you failed on the terror front, didn't you? Your government could not stop infiltration from Bangladesh.
It is not a question of stopping infiltration or stopping terrorism. The government must be honest in its fight.
We have the political resolve to fight terror. We started throwing illegal Bangladeshis out of the country, the Parliament attack accused were punished and we punished the terrorists who had attacked the Akshardham temple complex in Gujarat as well.
Any message for voters?
They should vote to fight terror. They must vote to punish the government that has failed to stop terrorists. They should vote against the government, which has failed on the economic front as well. I am optimistic that the right party will win Delhi.
