'I sent my daughter away with strangers to save her'

By: Vedika Tripathi

I was on a business visit to Mumbai along with my 10-year-old daughter Subin. I was at CST on Wednesday night to catch the Bijapur-Mumbai Passenger for Pune with her when the shootout started.

I was sitting on the floor in front of platform number 9 when I saw two boys coming in with firing guns. I tried to run for safety with my daughter. When I looked back I saw people falling on the floor and dying. One of the flying bullets hit my leg. The terrorists lay down on the floor and kept firing like they wanted to destroy the city.

I handed Subin over to a family I had met just a few minutes before the mayhem. I just wanted to save her. I told them to take care of her, as I could not walk."

I had to wait for more than half-an-hour to get a cab to a hospital. My leg was bleeding profusely and no cabbie was ready to take me. Finally, one cop hailed a cab for me and directed the driver to take me to G T Hospital.

Thankfully, my daughter reached home safely. I spoke to her over the phone. She is still unaware about my injury.
