Jordon Fernandes' funeral in Naigaon; the Chef was to go to the UK on January 15 for a hospitality career abroad PIC/Nimesh Dave | Jordon refused to set the tablecloths on fire as asked by terrorists
Jordon Fernandes (22), dreams to work in a luxurious hotel in the United Kingdom were shattered on Wednesday after he was shot dead by terrorists at Kandahar, an Indian restaurant in Oberoi.
Fernandes who was from Naigaon (W) was employed as an assistant steward at Kandahar for the last one year.
He was buried yesterday morning at the Mother of God Church burial ground in Naigaon, and hundreds turned up to pay homage.
Fernandes was shot thrice; one bullet entered through his neck and shattered his right eye.
According to close relatives, Fernandes was on duty with a colleague Pradeep, from Bangalore. They were serving guests when they heard gunshots.
Fernandes and Pradeep too made an attempt to run, but were stopped by a foreign guest who requested Fernandes to bring an important file of his that he had left inside the restaurant. Fernandes and Pradeep returned to the restaurant and started looking for the files, when a terrorist came in.
Fernandes and Pradeep were alone at that time. The terrorist then told Fernandes to set the tablecloths on fire.
Fernandes refused to do so and this annoyed the terrorist who fired three shots at him from a point blank range. The terrorist then set the cloths on fire himself and asked Pradeep to show him the way down. A terrified Pradeep was taken to the elevator area. The terrorist entered an elevator going up and Pradeep managed to slip into the one going down. He escaped from the rear end exit.
Today was to be Fernandes's last working day in Oberoi and he was to fly to UK on January 15. |
