Mumbai terror: Angry citizens protest

By: MiDDay
There were children, grand parents, and working professionals. But they all held hands marched slowly around the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal hotel, symbols of devastation of Mumbai. Citizens blamed politicians for the tragedy that has taken over Mumbai. "Long live our martyrs" and " down with corrupt politicians" were some of the placards the citizens were seen carrying. The protests were silent.

The citizens began arriving since early morning. Almost on cue, bystanders also began extending their solidarity. Candles were exchanged. And lit. Some raised slogans, others asked them to maintain silence  as the protestors walked along the Taj Mahal hotel.

There were some, who could be seen weeping, mourning those who had lost their lives. "Mumbai will be back on its feet", read another placard".

Meanwhile, protest messages have been doing the rounds through e-mails, sms messages  across the country. "What a shame that the elite NSG Commandoes were taken in ordinary transport buses while our cricket heroes are taken in state of the art luxury buses", read an sms from socialite Chaya Momaya."It is high time for a civil revolution" read another.

Film personality Farah Khan, in an e-mail to this paper, said she was ashamed the way our politicians have ruined this country."As a citizen of India, I do not want to waste my vote for a government which does not care", she wrote.
