Nirupa Roy's family survived

By: Charul Shah
On November 26, deceased actress Nirupa Roy's family was also trapped in Taj Mahal Hotel and Towers, when the terrorists attacked. The family, however, was amongst the first batch of people to come out of the hotel without being injured."We consider it a miracle. We came out without injuries but I wish Nirupa was still with us," said Kamal Roy (87), husband of Nirupa Roy.

The Roys were at the Taj to attend a relative's reception party. "We reached there at 9.30 pm and were waiting for the couple to arrive by 9.40, when it all started. I was in the rest room when my brother called me that some people were being attacked at the hotel. I then rushed to the ballroom and informed the rest of my relatives. We heard bullet shots and hid under the tables and lay down on the floor," said Dimple Roy (32), Nirupa's daughter- in-law.

"It was only with the help of the hotel staff that we survived. They shielded us from the fire. I am an asthma patient and in the chaos, I lost my inhaler. The staff members got one from somewhere for me," Kiran added.

Kamal Roy said, "In the old Taj building, there are many hidden routes. These doors were kept open for us to escape. Being narrow, I was not able to walk. A staff member carried me on the shoulder and dropped me at Regal."
