Falcons soar high

Bandra Falcons came from behind to beat Union Boys 2-1 and win the inaugural Sunil Dutt Memorial Football Tournament in an exciting final at the the St Andrew's ground yesterday. They bagged a cool Rs 1 lakh as prize money.

Mighty Ducks, comprising Air-India veterans, took third place trouncing Mumbai Jaguars 5-1.

Early lead

Under-16 player Siddharth Singh gave Union Boys an early lead in the first half in the 7-a-side instant tournament. But the Falcons fought back and netted twice in the second half through Vijesh and substitute Francisco Saldhana. Union Boys' Shabbir Ali was adjudged player of the tournament.

Mighty Ducks, comprising marquee names like Godfrey Pereira, Anthony Fernandes and Binoy Kuruvilla, were too seasoned for the Jaguars and they struck through Lawrence Dias (2), Alan Dias and Dexter Rodrigues.
 
For the losers Swapnil Mane reduced the margin while Nilesh Jaiswal scored a self goal.
