The Government Railway Police (GRP) has promised not to give you a chance to complain about its helpline number in the future. After repeated complaints by commuters that their calls to the helpline go unanswered, GRP has introduced a new number that will ensure immediate attention to their grievances.
GRP, which has roped in Vodafone, will introduce 9833331111 as its new helpline number from the second week of October. The number will be linked to the control room at Bori Bunder, near the GRP headquarters, where all calls will be monitored to ensure that commuter grievances are addressed. "The calls will be recorded and there will be random checks to ensure that the number is functional. Strict action will be taken if any official is found ignoring these calls or does not provide assistance to the caller," said a senior GRP official. All GRP personnel have also been instructed that if there are any missed calls, they must call back on those numbers immediately.
"We are improving our existing system. The new system will monitor all calls on our helpline number and there is no chance of ignoring any call. We are expecting a positive response from commuters," said A K Sharma, GRP commissioner.
The control room will have 70 mobile phones provided by Vodafone. Out of these, 40 mobiles are for the Mumbai division, while the rest will be allocated to other parts of Maharashtra. GRP has already started setting up the control room. It has installed three maps in the room costing Rs 10,000 each.
How it will work
When commuters call the helpline number, GRP personnel will ask for their address and phone number.
These details will be forwarded to the nearby GRP/RPF chowky to a personnel on duty, who will try to solve the problems.
