10,000 bricks in the wall: KSCA salutes Rahul Dravid pic/Satish Badiger

A wall to honour the wall. That's how the Karnataka state Cricket Academy (KSCA) plans to honour the former captain of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid.

A unique wall honouring Dravid's achievement has been constructed in the KSCA premises. The  first-of-its-kind monument in Bangalore, will be unveiled by Sachin Tendulkar today.

The three Cs

The wall, using 10,000 bricks, is to honour Dravid who has achieved a rare feat of scoring 10,000 runs both in one-day and test cricket. The monument, a symbol of his achievements, also depicts Dravid's form on the field through the three Cs that he is known for commitment, consistency and class. This was what brought him the nickname of great "wall of team India".

"He deserves it as he is the first Kannadiga to achieve this feat," said B K Ravi, assistant secretary, KSCA. "We have put up this monument to honour him for his achievement."

The "wall" is a joint venture between KSCA and Skyline Constructions and Housing Private Limited.

"It's a unique memorial," said Ravi, "As he is the only cricketer from the state to achieve this, it is specially designed to describe his personality."

Honour for family

The honour has made his family proud.

"It really is a matter of pride," said Pushpa Dravid, Rahul's mother, "he is going to be there forever through this monument. As the monument is termed a new landmark for Bangalore, it makes us proud".

Members in KSCA hope the number of the bricks in the wall will increase.

"He has made a remarkable achievement and we hope this will continue. We wish that the number of bricks in the wall will continue to grow. He will certainly do that as he has proved himself beyond expectations in the past," said Ravi.
