Remains of the day: Passers-by look on in disbelief | A Kinetic Honda exploded in Jayanagar yesterday, causing a huge scare.
A man who said his name was Nazim was pushing the scooter towards Madhavan Park Circle when he noticed sparks flying out of the engine. He parked the scooter by the footpath. Soon it blew up.
While he tried to pour water and bring the flames under control, his tyre exploded, adding to the suspicion that a terrorist attack was afoot. Passers-by panicked and ran helter-skelter. Rumours about a bomb blast spread quickly. A Hoysala van arrived and the commotion subsided.
"We took Nazim to the police station for investigating with regard to the scooter blast. After questioning and investigating we found that it was a mechanical fault in the vehicle and later we released Nazim"
