Devotees fight traffic jam for Devi's darshan

By: Subroto Roy

ALTHOUGH the high-profile Kalyani Nagar Sarbajanin Durga Puja was flooded with devotees, it was a nightmare for many to get in and out of there.

The access road to lane No 7, leading to the venue of the puja, Ruhi Palace was chocked with unruly traffic for over three hours.

Commuters on the North Main Road from and to Kalyani Nagar had to face indisciplined driving.

To reach the venue from Adlabs to lane No 5 of North Main Road it took more than a couple of hours, thanks to the bottlenecks at almost all entry and exit points of lanes.

The venue was even more chaotic. The influx did not stop despite several warnings from the organisers.
Drivers of long luxurious cars got into verbal duals with one another. A car owner went to the extent of abandoning his wife alone in the car in the middle of the road, putting one and all into great inconvenience.

What a tribute to the Devi!

But once at the mandir, the exhaustion was gone. Arrangements at the entertainment area and food stalls were superb.

The stall owners made a fast buck. Not due to the quality, but the higher prices.

Arun Bhanjo, who ate mutton biryani at the venue said, "The price is much higher than Congress Bhavan, or elsewhere in the city." he said.

The homeward journey from the venue was even harder…and eminently forgettable.
