The Indian Mujahideen (IM) believes in the policy of KISS Keep It Simple, Stupid. So, to make sure their activities were not traced, the members did not use mobile phones.
To discuss a plan, IM members would meet people personally and decide the day, date, place and time of the next meeting. They have no communication thereafter. They use PCOs only in case of an emergency or to keep in touch with family members.
Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police (crime), said, "This group does not use mobile phones. They meet personally and if needed, use PCOs."
Bomb distribution
The police have also found that IM members from Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune and Mumbai collected explosives used in the blasts from Karnataka. Members who were assigned to collect them were each given a number, where they were to call and take further instructions.
They were then informed of a place where they collected the explosives from a person named Naushad who was in direct touch with IM boss Riyaz Bhatkal. Soon after, the number would be disconnected.
E-mail delay
On September 13, three techies Mohammad Asghar Peerbhoy (31), Mubin Shaikh (21), and Asif Bashiruddin (22) were assigned the job of sending terror e-mails regarding the Delhi blasts from Tilak Nagar. They reached the place in a Maruti Esteem with driver Mohammed Akbar (28).
The e-mail, which claimed that nine blasts would occur in Delhi within a span of five minutes, was sent at 6.26 pm â a delay of six minutes according to the IM schedule. They were delayed because they were held up in traffic during Ganeshotsav and also couldn't find parking. Thus, the blasts had already occurred by the e-mail was sent to media houses.
