Mumbai:

The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police seized 1.75 kg charas worth Rs 1.4 lakh from autorickshaw driver Mohd Saadiq Ansari (26) yesterday.

Ansari was standing outside his rickshaw near the National Stock Exchange junction at BKC when he saw a police van approaching him. Rolfie Pereira, senior inspector from BKC police station, said, "The police van was passing by, but inspector Rajendra Kale noticed that Ansari was trying to hide something. So, he searched Ansari's vehicle and found drugs."

Ansari told the cops that one Saayed from Kurla (W) gave him the drugs. He later gave the police his address, but it turned out to be fake.

Ansari has been arrested for possessing drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. His conviction will attract a term of up to 10 years with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
