Motorists will have a harrowing time travelling to Trombay on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), as VN Purav Marg (popularly known as Sion-Trombay Road) will be closed for traffic from today. The road that connects Sion to Trombay is one of the main traffic arteries connecting Mumbai to its central suburbs.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to shut this road to ease construction of the much-delayed Suman Nagar flyover.

The MSRDC has installed a signboard stating that VN Purav Marg will be closed and traffic will have to take alternate route.

Temporary exercise

An official from MSRDC said, "We are conducting this exercise on a temporary basis to understand how it affects the traffic. Only after this study will we close this road."

This study will be under operation for nearly a month.

There is also a proposal to demolish the traffic signal and triangular garden at the junction that separates the road to VN Purav Marg (towards BARC) from EEH.
