BRILLIANT: Ruhi Saraf with mother Kalpana. Ruhi cleared AS and A level exams, equivalent to FYJC and SYJC respectively, of Cambridge International Examination within two months

Ruhi Saraf (12) cleared the AS and A level exams, equivalent to FYJC and SYJC respectively, of Cambridge International Examination (CIE) within a span of two months in May.

Ruhi, who studies at the Podar International School, Santacruz, scored between 60 and 70 per cent marks in these exams. Ruhi wants to study aeronautical engineering. She says she studied for seven-eight hours every day. "My parents and principal had immense faith in me. It's only because of their encouragement that I could manage to do well," said Ruhi.

Her father, Om Prakash and mother, Kalpana are thrilled at her success. "We have full faith in her capabilities and support her in whatever she does," said Kalpana. Vandana Lulla, principal, Podar International School, said, "Ruhi is a very focused child. She is a gem of a student." Ruhi realised she could appear for the exams when she visited her brother in Hyderabad. "My elder brother is a first year engineering student. When I managed to solve his math paper easily, I decided to appear for the exams," she said. However, she was told that she could not appear for the CIE exams unless she cleared Std X. So, she appeared for five subjects of Std X at the Shri International School in Hyderabad and wrote two papers in Mumbai.
