A day after he reinstated all sacked employees saying he could not bear their suffering, Naresh Goyal, chairman, Jet Airways, held a meeting with them at Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, yesterday at 11 am. Goyal apologised to the employees and asked them to keep political parties and the media out.
"We are one family. Don't allow anyone to interfere in our family matters. I did not know about the lay-offs. This won't happen again. Your salaries won't be deducted and in case of a severe financial crunch, the salaries of only the senior staff would be cut," said Goyal.
However, despite getting their jobs back, some employees still feel insecure. "We are scared that the management may harass us and sack us in turns, citing petty issues," said Janvi Rai (28). Other employees are unsure about joining the Hawai Karmachari Sena, a national union to protect them. "If it hadn't been for the pressure, we wouldn't have got our jobs back. None of us signed a pact to form a union, but we will decide about it later," said Prakash Parmar (23). Jayant Dave (26) said there is no need to form a union. "Our chairman said the management's decision was wrong and that there was no pressure to reinstate us. He travels a lot and may have not known about our dismissal," he said.

Union leader upset
Sameer Dalvi (33), who fought for the sacked employees, is upset that they do not feel the need to form a union. "I truly stood up for the employees. I have been receiving threat calls, but I did not budge. I am deeply hurt that the employees are backing off from forming a union. I am not interested in becoming a union leader. I will always fight for anyone in trouble from the aviation industry," he said. |
