AC Milan says it is close to signing David Beckham on loan from January.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani says the club is discussing the deal with Beckham's agent. The former England captain would stay with the Serie A club until the end of the season.

Beckham's season with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League soccer is nearly finished. He is eager to join another club so he can remain fit to play in England's World Cup qualifying matches.

Galliani made his comments today at Malpensa airport before flying to a UEFA Cup match.
