One killed as heavy rains lash Kanyakumari

A woman died when she stepped on a live wire this morning, even as heavy rains continued to lash Kanyakumari district.


The 23-year-old woman was going to the temple and did not see the snapped wire lying on the road due to the rain, police said.


The district administration has declared a holiday for schools, colleges and government offices due to the rains.


Fishermen in Chinnamuttam fishing harbour did not go for fishing due to the rough sea.


All the 2500 tanks in Kanyakumari district is fast filling up. Heavy inflow has been reported in Pechiparai and Perunchani dams.


Kottaram recorded 7.82 cm of rain in the last 24 hours ending 0830 hrs today. Nagercoil and Boothapandy recorded 5.82 cma dn 4.83 cm respectively during the period.
