Police to seize Raj's mobile to check messages

By: Charul Shah

The police seem to be in no mood to spare Raj Thackeray. Following his arrest on Tuesday, the police now want to seize his mobile phone to check the contents of text messages he circulated among his party workers.

In their remand application filed at the Kalyan metropolitan court, the police mentioned, "Raj sent messages to cause trouble to a particular section of the society and continued to be in touch with MNS leaders. All messages assured his party workers that MNS would stand by them." The remand states that the language he used was abusive.

Rohini Salian, special public prosecutor, said, "We are seeking the custody of his mobile phone to examine his text messages and trace call records. The text messages circulating on people's phones are provocative. We will take up the matter in court."

However, advocate Rajan Shirodkar who represents Raj told MiD DAY, "The prosecution alleged that Raj sent provocative text messages to MNS workers when he was in custody at Manpada police station. We deny the charges. He did not and cannot possess a mobile phone in jail."
