WITH nano technology growing at such a fast pace in the country, the day is not far when nano robots will be used to remove blood clots in human body and in several other medical applications.
Speaking at the backdrop of an international workshop on procession of solid propellant rockets at the Pune-based High Energy Material Research Laboratory, scientists informed MiD DAY that India has the technology to prepare nano-materials for multiple use, including medicine.
"The day is not far when nano-robots could be sent inside your veins to clear a blood clot, or spray a medicine over an infection in your lungs," said A Sivathanu Pillai, distinguished scientist and director of India's Brahmos missile series.
He added that the convergence of nano-technology, bio-technology and information technology will give us nano-robots. "Nano robots will have the capability to clear your blood clot without a surgery, owing to their molecular size," he explained.
S E Hasnain, eminent biologist and vice chancellor of University of Hyderabad, agreed with this distinct possibility. "When we make nano-materials for propelling jets, why can't we use them to cure clinical hurdles that come into the way of good health," he said.
